Beist is a comic originally created as a long-term creative
side project alongside my regular work. The story is written
in Norwegian and reflects a personal and intuitive approach to
storytelling.
The project grew out of an interest in folklore, nature and
Norse mythology. I wanted to create a story rooted in
Norwegian fairytale traditions, but with more difficult and
violent themes intended for a mature audience.
The comic went through several written drafts before being
developed digitally in Photoshop, page by page, without a
fully fixed structure from the beginning. The colors are
inspired by Norwegian Romanticism, drawing on its sense of
atmosphere and idealized landscapes.
For me, Beist became a learning process in storytelling,
digital painting and layout design over an extended period of
time. Even with its many flaws as I see it now, it remained a
companion to me for several years.
